नीता शर्मा हिन्दी की उन पहली पत्रकारों में हैं, जिन्होंने महिला पत्रकारिता से जुड़े मिथ तोड़कर उसे नए आयाम दिए. नीता शर्मा पत्रकारिता में नए तेवर के साथ दाख़िल हुईं - अपराध जैसी मुश्किल बीट चुनी और कई बड़े आपराधिक मामलों और माफिया सरगनाओं की ख़बरें कीं. गुजरात में शहाबुद्दीन फ़र्ज़ी मुठभेड़ का मामला हो या पाकिस्तान में दाऊद की बेटी की शादी का - नीता ने ऐसे मौकों पर शानदार रिपोर्टिंग की, जिसके लिए उन्हें कई सम्मान मिले. बाद में उन्होंने गृह मंत्रालय कवर किया और लद्दाख में चीनी घुसपैठ से कश्मीरी आतंकी बुरहान वानी की मौत तक की ख़बर सबसे पहली दी. कश्मीर से पूर्वोत्तर तक - पत्थरबाज़ी से चुनाव तक - हिंसा से लोकतांत्रिक पहल तक - अदालत से सियासत तक - नीता शर्मा ने सभी कुछ करीब से देखा और रिपोर्टिंग की. वह NDTV की निर्भीक व स्वतंत्र पत्रकारिता की परंपरा में अहम नाम हैं.
