चुनाव आयोग ने कहा कि लोकसभा चुनाव के छठे चरण में 63.3 प्रतिशत मतदान दर्ज किया गया है जिसमें रविवार को सात राज्यों की 59 सीटों के लिए वोट डाले गए. छठे चरण के तहत मतदान बिहार में आठ सीटों, हरियाणा की सभी 10 सीटों, दिल्ली की सभी सात सीटों, झारखंड की चार सीटों, मध्य प्रदेश की आठ सीटों, उत्तर प्रदेश की 14 सीटों और पश्चिम बंगाल की आठ सीटों पर मतदान हुआ. चुनाव आयोग के अधिकारियों ने कहा कि अंतिम मतदान प्रतिशत बढ़ सकता है. इस चरण में 4.75 करोड़ महिलाओं सहित 10.17 करोड़ मतदाता कुल 989 उम्मीदवारों की किस्मत का फैसला करेंगे और इसके लिए 1.13 लाख मतदान केंद्र बनाए गए हैं. दिल्ली में सात सीटों पर 164 उम्मीदवार चुनावी मैदान में हैं. यहां 1.43 करोड़ मतदाता इनकी किस्मत का फैसला करेंगे. उत्तर प्रदेश में कुल 2.53 करोड़ मतदाता 14 महिलाओं सहित 177 प्रत्याशियों के राजनीतिक भाग्य का फैसला करेंगे. इसके लिए कुल 16998 मतदान केंद्र और 29076 मतदान बूथ बनाए गए हैं. भाजपा ने यहां से 14, कांग्रेस ने 11, सपा-बसपा-रालोद गठबंधन के तहत बसपा ने 11 और सपा ने तीन सीटों पर उम्मीदवार उतारे हैं. भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी (भाकपा) के तीन उम्मीदवार चुनाव मैदान में हैं. उत्तर प्रदेश में पूर्वाचल की 14 सीटों पर मतदान हुआ जिसमें सुलतानपुर, प्रतापगढ़, फूलपुर, इलाहाबाद, अंबेडकरनगर, श्रावस्ती, डुमरियागंज, बस्ती, संत कबीर नगर, लालगंज, आजमगढ़, जौनपुर, मछलीशहर और भदोही शामिल हैं. इनमें से आजमगढ़, सुलतानपुर, फूलपुर और प्रयागराज पर देश की नजरें हैं.
