As the Mumbai Indians players walked out of the ground during the innings break, they didn't seem like they were under pressure. So we can say skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is happy that his team restricted their opposition to 187. Now the responsibility is on the batting unit to chase the target.
Amelia Kerr says that obviously, they got a bit away from them. Adds that Meg and Phoebe are two quality players, and it was not easy. Mentions that they tried to keep it tight for as long as possible. Says that they thought about keeping them under 180, but to keep them under 200 is also a win for them. Ends by saying that they will have to bat well to chase this down
Amelia Kerr and Phoebe Litchfield exchange the ORANGE and PURPLE CAPS. Kerr gets the Purple Cap from Phoebe and hands over the Orange one to her. Pheobe wears it and is ready for a chat. She says that it is the best of the three pitches they have played. Adds that it got a bit worn off, but it was good to bat on. Mentions that it was awesome batting with Meg, as they complemented each other well. Ends by saying that she hopes they defend this total.
In the very next over of that dismissal, Hayley Matthews followed suit, dismissing the opposition’s captain, Lanning. From that point, the flow of runs came to a halt, putting immense pressure on both batters. Yet, as the innings entered the final overs, they began to swing for the skies once again. In response, MI bowlers replied exceptionally well and allowed only 22 runs in the last three overs while taking five wickets. By the end of the inning, Amelia Kerr bagged three wickets and all of them came in the last over, Nat Sciver-Brunt picked a brace, and Nicola Carey, Hayley Matthews and Amanjot Kaur chipped in for one each.
UP Warriorz got an early setback, and it's yet again in the shape of Kiran Navgire, whose string of low runs continues, but the partnership between Phoebe Litchfield and Meg Lanning quickly became a nightmare for the Mumbai Indians' bowlers. As they built their stand, runs began to accumulate rapidly. By the end of the 12th over, they were in full attack mode. However, in a dramatic turn, Amanjot Kaur struck in the final ball of that 12th over, claiming a vital wicket that shifted the game's momentum.
The inning has been no less than a tug of war! UP Warriorz have posted a total of 187 runs, but skipper Meg Lanning would have been more satisfied if they could cross the 200-run mark and actually it's true. After the partnership of Lanning and Phoebe Litchfield, everybody thought that they were going to cross the 200 mark, but after the crucial breakthrough, that was some comeback from the MI bowlers.

We are all set to start stage 2 of TATA WPL season 4, with UP Warriorz taking on Mumbai Indians again, in the reverse fixture. Ironically, the reverse fixture is supposed to be at a different venue, but because of the scheduling of the tournament with only 2 venues involved and Vadodara coming into existence only from Monday, the two teams meet each other again at the same venue where they played on Thursday - DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai. Saturday will be the last time Mumbai will play host in this season and the home team will want to end their home leg on a high. Mumbai have not done too many things wrong this season and hence, won't be too flustered with their previous match's loss. Yes, 2 wins and 2 losses in 4 outings does signal inconsistency but their previous match was the only time that MI looked a bit undercooked. Even in their loss against RCB in the tournament opener, they fought back strongly to be on top in the run chase till the last ball but the excess of dew troubled the home side a lot. Mumbai Indians skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur, admitted that batting first has been a challenge for her side, but also promised that the batting unit will figure out a way to handle the situation. To be fair to Mumbai, they have batted thrice out of 4 games this season, and despite posting below-par totals twice, they have actually stuttered only once. It is not the fault of the batting unit. Conditions at the DY Patil have really not been conducive to batting first, but come this match, the conditions cannot be given as an excuse. Match number 10 is an afternoon game and in the only other afternoon match played roughly a week ago, the Gujarat Giants hammered 207/4 against the UP Warriorz. So one might presume that we could get another belter. It will be a good opportunity for Mumbai to work on their top order, because with 130 runs at an average of 16.25, they are at the bottom of the table as far as the openers are concerned, with the lowest tally of runs and average among all teams. Hayley Matthews' unavailability has caused a significant concern but even G Kamalini has not quite got going. In fact, only three players have contributed for them this season - Nicola Carey, Nat Sciver-Brunt and the skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur. One imagines that if they can still put up decent totals without getting a base from their openers, what would be the scenario if the openers start firing. Talking about MI's bowling, having had to bowl three times in the second innings, with the wet ball, it is a massive credit to them that they struggled only once, against the Warriorz in their previous game. Dew has been a constant factor every time they have played, yet, players like Nicola Carey, Amelia Kerr and Nat Sciver-Brunt have stood up. That puts them in great shape in this afternoon game, where the dew will not come into picture at all while the pitch could be on the slower side as well. Talking about the UP Warriorz, undoubtedly they will be on a high, having defeated the 2-time champions in their own backyard. But sometimes, when you earn a victory after a lot of tussle, it could either set you up for a wonderful season, or simply the relief could make you underperform in the immediate match. The Warriorz have had to endure 3 losses on the trot before their first win and it would need their senior staff to control the environment. Because in a tournament where matches come thick and fast, you literally have no time to fret over losses or over-celebrate wins. Talking about the last game in particular, the Warriorz were pretty disciplined with the ball, not allowing Mumbai Indians to get off the hook and later, with the bat, apart from a couple of hiccups, were pretty comfortable in the chase. They started the tournament well, making a fine 197/8 attempting a chase of 208, but stuttered both times they were asked to bat first post that. Their batters have had a slow start, with only Phoebe Litchfield contributing, but now, with runs under the belt for skipper Meg Lanning and Harleen Deol, they will hope that the batting starts to fire as a unit. There is nothing much to be talked about UPW's bowling, as twice they were forced to bowl with the wet ball, defending sub-par totals. However, one concern they might be having is the last time they played an afternoon game - they conceded 207 against Gujarat Giants. They might put their bowling woes to the toss and the dew but like MI, they have to find a way to combat those issues, as toss is not in anyone's control. Thursday night's performance with the ball was a pretty decent one against Mumbai, but despite having the conditions in their favour, the bowling unit managed to pick up only 4 wickets. So dew or no dew, a team performance is definitely due from the bowlers. Thursday was just the third time in 8 meetings that the UP Warriorz managed to earn a win over the Mumbai Indians. Never have they registered consecutive victories over the two-time champions. That should be a good motivation factor in itself, if moving up the table is not. As far as Mumbai are concerned, they will have to take a call soon on whom to leave out once Hayley Matthews is completely fit.
