The victorious skipper of Royal Challengers Bengaluru - Rajat Patidar says that top of the table feels great, but playing good cricket gives you more satisfaction. Mentions that the ball was stopping a bit early on, and the way Virat and Salt batted was superb. After that, Devdutt and David went crazy, and he enjoyed all those sixes from the dugout and the non-striker's end. Patidar shares that the mindset is clear as he just tries to put pressure on the bowlers when he is out there. Says that having David at the other end makes his job a lot easier. A quick chat - RCB's Bhuvneshwar Kumar says it feels special to reach the milestone of 200 IPL wickets and feels that it is the reward for what he has been doing consistently over the years. He describes the surface as a bit tricky, with some deliveries holding up while others came on nicely. He adds that the team stuck to the plans they have been working on since last year. Bhuvi acknowledges that it is not an easy venue to defend totals, but says their preparation is paying off. He jokingly says that, looking at the way Tim David was striking the ball, they were not entirely sure whether to feel comfortable or concerned.
The captain of the Chennai Super Kings - Ruturaj Gaikwad says he is surprised by the fight shown by Veer, Overton and Sarfaraz, adding that had he contributed more, the result could have been different. The CSK skipper takes responsibility for the outcome. He also points out that Anshul almost got rid of Tim David but had overstepped, and praises David for a superb knock. Gaikwad adds that taking an early chance of Virat Kohli could have shifted momentum in their favour. He feels CSK had the game in their hands until around the 13th or 14th over before it slipped away.
Early burst and timely strikes power RCB - Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be pleased with their bowling performance, though they might have liked a bigger margin after the start they had. Duffy was excellent in the Powerplay, striking twice early, while Bhuvneshwar also chipped in with a wicket. They did take some punishment in the middle overs, but Krunal's introduction turned the game with a crucial double-wicket over. Abhinandan then removed the dangerous Dube, thanks in large part to a stunning catch behind the stumps. Just as CSK were building another partnership, Bhuvneshwar returned to break it and finished with a three-fer, while Abhinandan wrapped things up in style.
RCB smash their way to record total - Earlier in the game, Royal Challengers Bengaluru powered their way to the highest total of IPL 2026. The openers got starts but couldn’t convert, before Padikkal kickstarted the carnage with a quickfire 50 off 29. Patidar and David then took it to another level, smashing an unbeaten 99-run stand with 14 sixes between them. Patidar blasted 48 off 19, while David starred with a breathtaking 70 off 25. Kamboj, Dube and Overton picked up wickets, but only Khaleel kept things somewhat in check. The damage could have been less if not for Kamboj's No-Ball that denied David's wicket.
Sarfaraz spark not enough for CSK - Chennai Super Kings stumbled early in the chase, with none of their top three making an impact as they slipped to 30/3. A glimmer of hope arrived through Sarfaraz Khan, who carried on his form from the last game, blazing his way to a 24-ball fifty. However, they were pegged back again, losing both Sarfaraz and Karthik Sharma in the same over to fall to 84/5. Dube chipped in with a few lusty blows but couldn't carry on, before Prashant Veer and Jamie Overton added a brisk 55-run stand to keep the fight alive. Their dismissals at crucial moments, though, left too much for the tail, and the target ultimately proved out of reach.
Title defence on track as RCB shine - Royal Challengers Bengaluru have registered yet another fantastic win, and their title defence has begun in style, first with a big chase and now by successfully defending a total, making it two in two. Both their batters and bowlers are contributing equally, a hallmark of a champion side. On the other hand, it’s all gloomy for CSK, who have now slumped to a third straight defeat and remain rooted to the bottom of the table.
