Right then, a second win of the season for the Super Giants and, importantly, their first at home. They now hit the road and travel to Kolkata to take on the Knight Riders in an afternoon clash on Tuesday, 8th April. As for Mumbai, they find themselves with just one win from four outings and will return to Wankhede to host the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Monday, 7th April. 5th April will be a doubleheader Saturday in the 2025 Indian Premier League. The first game of the day will see the Chennai Super Kings taking on the Delhi Capitals in Chennai at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). This will be followed by the Punjab Kings squaring off against the Rajasthan Royals in Mullanpur at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). As always, our build-up for both games will begin a lot sooner. Digvesh Singh is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his miserly bowling performance. He returned impressive figures of 1 for 21 from his 4 overs. Rishabh Pant is there to translate the interview into English. Digvesh says he is really enjoying the way he is performing. Adds that he loves to attack the batter and that really helps him to grow as a bowler. Mentions that he takes a lot of inspiration from Sunil Narine and tries to make an impact like he does. Adds that he wants to stay calm in high-pressure conditions and wants to be that guy who puts his hand up to do the job for the team. On Naman Dhir’s wicket, he reflects that he talked to Pant before that over. Says he wanted mid-wicket, but Pant advised him not to have one. And mentions that’s why he bowled into the stumps as he knew Dhir would play an attacking shot, and got out.
The captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, Rishabh Pant, says the wicket played well, and it was important for the team to assess conditions quickly. Highlights the impact of Mitchell Marsh at the top and his start allowed the middle order to capitalise. Adds that the team wants to continue playing according to the situation, regardless of the conditions. Speaking about the second innings, he admits it was mentally challenging as Mumbai kept wickets in hand and maintained momentum. He expresses satisfaction that the bowlers held their nerves and executed their plans to close out the game. Praises Shardul Thakur and hopes the pacer continues his good form. Also lauds Digvesh Singh for the way he has consistently held his nerve under pressure in crunch moments.

Shardul Thakur is in next for a chat. He says there’s always pressure when you are bowling the penultimate or last over. He says Avesh bowled a wonderful over. Adds that this is their job and as professionals, he feels this is what is expected. He feels this was a tricky wicket and it seemed on the slower side, but in the end, he felt it came down to bowling perfect yorkers. Mentions that they do observe the wicket in the first half, and many times they see the wicket getting better with dew taking effect, and hence it’s important to have different deliveries under their belt. He says Digvesh Singh is a superb bowler and a wonderful character as well and he is someone who expresses himself well. He says Digvesh did well in the practice games, and hence, he was drafted into the playing XI. Shardul feels that red soil wickets play well in the sense that batters can trust the bounce, but he feels that with black soil wickets, you need more skills as a batter to score boundaries.
The captain of the Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya, reflects on the defeat. He begins by saying it’s disappointing to lose. Thinks they gave too many runs on this wicket. On being asked about his bowling, he expresses that he is enjoying his bowling. Admits that he does not have many options and he tries to read the wicket well and take smarter options. Adds that he has always been aggressive in his mindset. Says the focus is to bowl more dot balls and compel the batters to make mistakes. Says they win as a team and lose as a team and does not want to blame any individual. Also says he and the batting unit take ownership. On his thoughts about retiring Tilak Varma out, he says they wanted some big hits, and Tilak, unfortunately, wasn’t getting those. Also says in cricket, one of those days come and it is normal. Further adds that they want to play good cricket and take good calls. Says that they want to play smart with the ball with a bit of aggression and admits they aren’t doing that now. Ends by saying it is a long tournament, and a couple of wins will give them their rhythm back.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first, Mitchell Marsh gave Lucknow Super Giants a blazing start. However, Mumbai Indians hit back in the middle phase, with Hardik Pandya leading the charge through his smart use of slower deliveries. Aiden Markram and Ayush Badoni steadied the innings before a quickfire cameo from David Miller helped LSG reach 203. Hardik was superb with the ball for MI with his maiden five-wicket haul in T20s.
SKY's dismissal came at an inopportune time for Mumbai, leaving them needing 29 runs off the final 12 balls. With Tilak Varma struggling at the other end and eventually retiring out, the onus fell entirely on Hardik Pandya. From Lucknow’s perspective, first Shardul Thakur and then Avesh Khan executed their deliveries to perfection in the death overs to seal the deal.
Lucknow Super Giants were inconsistent with the ball after those early breakthroughs, allowing Mumbai to rebuild and keep the chase on track. Digvesh Singh provided a crucial breakthrough right after the first strategic break, and from there, the home side tightened the grip, with Digvesh playing a key role in applying the squeeze. Suryakumar Yadav kept the required run rate in check but found it difficult to score fluently on the sluggish surface.
Lucknow Super Giants return to winning ways in a thriller! With this victory, they continue their dominance over the five-time champions, securing their sixth win in seven encounters. It's the third defeat in as many away games for Mumbai Indians, who had their moments in the game, but LSG’s brilliance at the death with the ball proved too much to handle. With 204 runs to chase, Mumbai lost both openers within the first three overs.

It lands and goes straight on. Naman Dhir gets a bit across and tries to nudge into the leg side, but plays over the wrong line. Enough gap between the bat and pad for the ball to sneak through and crash into the off pole. Digvesh Singh breaks this 69-run partnership for the third wicket and brings out the famous notebook celebration once again. Naman Dhir departs on 46 off just 24. MI are 86/3.
STRATEGIC BREAK! Despite the shaky start, MI have done well to keep the required run rate in check through this stand between Naman Dhir and Suryakumar Yadav. LSG got a couple of early scalps but have not quite managed to mount the pressure due to the inconsistency in the lines and lengths. The Super Giants will look to regroup and will hope that this break in play helps them disrupt the momentum.
