कोलकाता नाइट राइडर्सने टॉस जीतकर गेंदबाजी का फैसला किया
8.35 pm IST (3.05 pm GMT) - The match officials are out in the middle, engaged in discussions with the chief of the ground staff. Hardik Pandya is also waiting in the dugout, while the KKR players have also started gathering around their dugout. The covers are still firmly in place, though. The umpires are repeatedly looking up at the skies, not entirely sure how much can be made of that in the dark, but perhaps the radar has suggested there could still be a bit more weather around.
8.24 pm IST (2.54 pm GMT) - The rain seems to have eased, with the fourth umpire no longer needing the umbrella. The entire ground currently resembles an ice rink with it blanketed in white sheets. It could still be a little while before we resume, given the sheer amount of covers spread across the playing area.
8.16 pm IST (2.46 pm GMT) - Where has this come from? The heavens have suddenly opened up, and the players are sprinting off the park as the covers are rushed on by the ground staff. Harsha Bhogle mentions on air that this shower was expected on the radar, with more rain potentially on the way as well. The good thing, though, is that here in Kolkata the entire ground gets covered, and that is exactly what is happening at the moment.

FOUR BYES! That has beaten everyone! Floated up, on a good length, on off. Varma looks to play the line of the ball with a straight bat. The ball lands and spins away to go past the bat. The keeper is beaten and Manish Pandey at a wide slip stands no chance as the ball goes right between them.

Change. It's time for Sunil Narine to roll his arm over now.

That's the end of the Powerplay. KKR have bossed it up very well. And what a game this has been for Dubey, who has dismissed the two MI batting giants, Rohit and SKY. Kartik Tyagi will steam in now, replacing Cameron Green.

OUT! DRAGGED ON! The change of angle does the trick for Saurabh Dubey. Another low score for Suryakumar Yadav. Dubey switches to around the wicket and bowls it on a back of a length at 128.6 kph. OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! A well-judged catch by Cameron Green and the start gets even better for KKR. Saurabh Dubey has his arms aloft in delight. Dubey takes pace off and serves it full, on off. Sharma looks to go big on the leg side and swings across the line. He does not pick the change of pace and is early into the lofted hit. It goes a long way up behind mid-wicket. Cameron Green charges across to his right all the way from mid on, while Rovman Powell also goes for the catch from mid-wicket. Green has Powell in his peripheral vision, converging to his left, but he is not put off by it. At the last moment, Rovman leaves it for Cameron and the Aussie having got to the ball, holds on nicely close to his chest.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! KKR get the review right and it is a double blow from Cameron Green. Cameron serves it full, allowing the ball to move away in the air. Dhir is lured into the drive and pushes at the ball away from his body. The ball goes past the bat and it is snaffled with ease by the keeper, Angkrish Raghuvanshi. OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! Expertly held by Manish Pandey. Cameron Green provides a big wicket to KKR. Angled in from around the wicket, on a good length, on middle. Rickelton gets a bit low and has a swipe across the line. A top edge is found and it is skied a long way up in the cover-point region. Manish Pandey calls for it as he moves to his left. He keeps his eyes on the ball all the way through and his head stays still right through. Even though the ball curves away from him at the last moment, he has it covered. He hangs low and dives to complete the catch.

All set to get underway in the City of Joy. Former Aussie captain Michael Clarke rings the bell to mark the commencement of the game. The KKR players are in a huddle with Ajinkya Rahane, pumping up his lads. Now, they spread out to take their respective positions. The two Rs, Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton, walk to the crease to open for the Mumbai Indians. And okay, an interesting move first up by the Knight Riders. It is the left-arm spinner, Anukul Roy, who will bowl the first over, with two right-handers at the crease. Long on and deep backward square leg are the two fielders outside the ring. No slip in place. Here we go...
Impact Sub options for KKR - Vaibhav Arora, Finn Allen, Ramandeep Singh, Tejasvi Singh and Rahul Tripathi.
Kolkata Knight Riders (Playing XI) - Ajinkya Rahane (C), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (WK), Cameron Green, Rovman Powell (In for Finn Allen), Manish Pandey, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Anukul Roy, Kartik Tyagi, Varun Chakaravarthy, Saurabh Dubey.
Impact Sub options for MI - Shardul Thakur, Mayank Rawat, Robin Minz, Krish Bhagat and AM Ghazanfar.
Mumbai Indians (Playing XI) - Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton (WK), Naman Dhir, Suryakumar Yadav (In for Raj Bawa), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya (C) (In for Sherfane Rutherford), Will Jacks, Corbin Bosch, Deepak Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Raghu Sharma.
The captain of Mumbai Indians - Hardik Pandya, on the toss, says they would have bowled first as well, noting the pitch looks like it has been under the covers and they wanted to see how the wicket plays out. On playing for pride, he adds that whenever you represent this franchise, you want to play your best cricket and put your best foot forward. He highlights MI's long history of winning titles and says the goal is simply to represent the franchise in the best capacity by keeping their heads high. On MI's record at Eden Gardens, he stresses that it is in the past, and what matters now is turning up, playing good cricket, and enjoying the game. On team changes, he chuckles and says that he is back, adding that AM Ghazanfar is back too.
The captain of Kolkata Knight Riders - Ajinkya Rahane, on the must-win situation with two games remaining, keeps it simple, saying they want to focus on this game and play good cricket overall. He acknowledges it is about winning two from two but stresses the importance of staying in the moment. About KKR's ride in the tournament so far, he admits there were moments in the first half where they could have capitalised, but says there are no complaints. He feels the way they came back is pretty special, adding that it has always been about comebacks for this side. On the wicket, he admits that it is tough to read and feels they need to play good cricket across all 40 overs. On the team news, he informs that they are going unchanged.
TOSS - Righto, it is toss time at Eden Gardens. Both captains - Hardik Pandya and Ajinkya Rahane are out in the middle. Ravi Shastri is leading the proceedings. He says the conditions are pretty muggy out there. Rahane will spin the coin, Hardik will call. Heads is the call from Hardik. It lands as Tails. Kolkata Knight Riders have elected to BOWL first.
MI's Sherfane Rutherford is up for a chat - On what has hampered the team's progress this season, Rutherford admits that they have not put together a complete game. He notes that when they bat well, the bowling does not follow, and when they bowl well, the batting sometimes lets them down. He identifies that as one key area the team has recognised. He mentions that they are already out of the tournament but feels there is still plenty to play for, whether for themselves, the supporters, or the franchise owner. He stresses the importance of continuing to learn, adding that these things happen in cricket, and what matters is how quickly you recover and get better. On the win against Punjab Kings, he says it feels great, admitting that victories have been few and far between for the team. He adds that every win is important and that there is still room to improve, something the group has already spoken about. He says this game brings another opportunity and that the goal is to finish the tournament well. With two games remaining, he feels it is important to keep giving themselves more happiness by winning, correcting small mistakes, and trying to put together a perfect game. On whether they can make it five wins, he says that is absolutely the goal. He feels the guys are in great spirits despite a difficult season, adding that the atmosphere and vibe in the camp have been great.
Ground updates - Just a few minutes away from the toss. Live visuals show that Suryakumar Yadav, who missed out in the last game, is out in the middle going through his warm-ups, with Hardik Pandya also spotted in practice gear. He will surely play and will be back to lead MI. From the KKR camp, there is a bit of uncertainty around Varun Chakaravarthy's availability for this fixture, with the spinner seen walking gingerly.
Let's hear it from KKR's Cameron Green - On his experience across three franchises, Green says he has been very lucky to be part of three great setups. He describes KKR as an incredibly close unit, adding that it probably shows in how they have managed to turn things around. He admits that the first half of the competition was not their best, but notes they have found some rhythm now. He adds that when a group gets along really well, it holds them in a really good stead. On what took the team and himself a while to get going this season, he credits Shane Watson for making a really good point. He explains that with quite a few new guys in the team, they did not quite knew the right balance at the start of the competition. He admits it probably took them a bit too long to find it, but notes they have found it now and hopes they can carry on in the next two games. On going into the game against MI, he says they have been playing great cricket over the last five or six games. He feels they are in good form and hopes that they can continue.
PITCH REPORT - Deep Dasgupta is pitchside and begins by mentioning that there was a bit of thunder and a shower the other day in Kolkata. Points that the outfield at Eden Gardens is very quick, but the playing area is not that huge. About the dimensions, he points out a clear bias as one side of the square is 70 meters, while the other measures just 58 meters, with the straight hit being 74 meters.  Michael Clarke picks up from there, observing that even if rain stays away, the humidity is high. He notes that the pitch looks dry, and on closer inspection, he observes that there is a little bit of grass, though it is equally dry. Details that the surface underneath might be a little bit two-paced in nature. He feels that for both teams tonight, it could be a case of spin to win. Says that even if it doesn't turn much, the natural variations, like the change of pace, will play a huge role. He underlines that runs have been scored here and fast bowlers have played their part, but adds that the spinners could hold the key in this game. Deep adds that the pitch should offer good carry as it looks abrasive. He signs off by stating his preference to chase here.
Dangerous with freedom - Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, have nothing to lose and that often makes them a dangerous side. Ryan Rickelton has provided fearless starts at the top, Tilak Varma has anchored the middle order superbly, while Shardul Thakur has rediscovered his knack for timely breakthroughs with the ball. Whereas Rohit Sharma has particularly enjoyed playing at the Eden Gardens, averaging a healthy 53.66, and is the highest run getter for MI overall here as well. With so many powerful performers on display, this one promises to be a cracker of a contest. Toss and teams coming up shortly. Stay tuned.
No margin for error - For Kolkata Knight Riders, it is simple tonight - win and stay alive, lose and they will join MI and LSG among the teams knocked out of the playoff race. KKR have found form at just the right time with four wins in their last five matches, driven by the brilliance of Angkrish Raghuvanshi, the explosive starts from Finn Allen and the experience of Sunil Narine.
Greetings, all!  A massive night awaits at Eden Gardens for this crunch clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians in the 65th match of the season. The playoff race, pride and a fierce rivalry all collide tonight under the lights, with KKR fighting to keep their season alive while MI look to sign off strongly and potentially play spoilers in the race to the final four.
... MATCH DAY ...
The great East vs West rivalry - The league stage is entering its decisive stretch, and Match 65 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians at the iconic Eden Gardens carries contrasting narratives. For Kolkata, this is a fixture loaded with playoff implications after a dramatic mid-season turnaround. Mumbai, meanwhile, are effectively playing for pride after an inconsistent campaign, but few teams in IPL history are more dangerous than MI when expectations are low, and freedom enters the equation. Momentum shift to the moon - Few teams have experienced a swing in fortunes quite like KKR this season. After a disastrous start that left them staring at an early exit, the Knights have rediscovered rhythm at the perfect moment, winning five of their last six matches and pushing themselves back into playoff contention. Their latest outing was a commanding win over the Gujarat Titans, powered by a brutal batting display, and it underlined a team suddenly brimming with confidence. KKR’s resurgence has coincided with a shift in intent at the top. Finn Allen has injected raw aggression into the batting unit, and his recent 93 off 35 balls against the Gujarat Titans was arguably the innings that reignited Kolkata’s season. His powerplay assault allows KKR to dictate tempo immediately, particularly on batting-friendly surfaces like Eden. Alongside him, Sunil Narine remains the tactical fulcrum, and Narine’s influence on slow-to-medium-paced surfaces remains immense. KKR will also look toward Angkrish Raghuvanshi to maintain stability through the middle overs, especially if early wickets fall, and the likes of Cameron Green and Rinku Singh to provide the big finish. Finishing on a high - Mumbai’s story has been very different. Despite flashes of brilliance and occasional high-scoring victories, inconsistency has wrecked their season. Even a morale-boosting chase against the Punjab Kings came too late to reignite realistic qualification hopes. Injuries have also added to their problems, with key squad disruptions further complicating selection and balance. Writing Mumbai off completely would be a mistake. Their batting lineup still contains enough firepower to challenge any total, particularly on a batting-friendly pitch. Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma possess the kind of range that can neutralize even elite spin attacks if they settle in. The bigger concern for MI is bowling control. On a ground where pace-off variations and yorkers become essential, the burden falls heavily on Jasprit Bumrah and Deepak Chahar to contain Kolkata’s aggressive top order. If KKR survive the Powerplay relatively unscathed, Mumbai could struggle to stem the flow through the middle overs. What's the pitch saying? If recent evidence is anything to go by, bowlers could be in for another punishing evening in Kolkata. Eden Gardens has transformed into one of the highest-scoring venues of IPL 2026, with first-innings totals frequently soaring beyond 200. KKR’s recent 247/2 against Gujarat Titans perfectly showcased the conditions - true bounce, quick outfield, and short boundaries that reward fearless strokeplay. Teams chasing have generally enjoyed success at the venue, making the toss potentially significant. Historical context - Historically, Mumbai have dominated this rivalry, winning 25 of the 36 IPL meetings between the two sides, including the earlier encounter this season. But recent seasons suggest the gap is narrowing, with KKR winning multiple recent clashes and looking increasingly comfortable against MI’s attack. Form (Last 5 completed games, recent first) - KKR - WLWWW | MI - WLWLL. Prediction time - On current momentum and considering conditions at Eden Gardens, KKR enter as slight favourites. Their batting looks better suited to the surface, and their spin attack offers more variety in the middle overs. Mumbai’s experience and individual brilliance make them dangerous, but unless their senior core produces a near-perfect game, Kolkata appear to hold the edge in a potentially high-scoring thriller. Who do you think will grab bragging rights in this encounter?
