Aiden Markram looked a bit rusty on his back foot as he edged three times onto the pads, and that determined Rishabh Pant to throw the ball towards Jasprit Bumrah for one final time before the break. As always, the master came up with a trick as he went past Aiden's inside edge, but this time onto the stumps. So, India wouldn't mind this start. They have contained South Africa from scoring free-flowing runs but they'll hope to be a bit more consistent with the ball. Join us back for the Post-Tea session at 11.30 am IST (5.50 am GMT).
The Indian seamers started well, beating the edge numerous times but Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram remained calm and took their time to score runs. Aiden Markram got off the mark on the 17th ball but got a big reprieve when KL Rahul dropped him on 4 at second slip. With the pitch flattening out a bit, Rishabh Pant turned to his spinners after the first hour. Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav bowled in tandem, generating a lot of turn but no significant chances.
That's what he always does! Whenever India need a wicket, he comes up as if he has all the tricks in the world. He does have actually! So, South Africa go into the Tea losing Aiden Markram in the last over of the session. Apart from that, the visitors nailed every answer India threw at them. Win the toss, choose to bat first, and score runs in the first session. That's pretty good from the visitors, apart from that last over drama.
