Time to hear from the other camp - Australia's Cooper Connolly says they have taken plenty of learnings from their defeat in the opening ODI and are keen to put them into practice in the second game. He highlights South Africa's two left-arm spinners as a particular threat, with the visitors working on plans to counter them in the remaining matches. Connolly adds that they will look to stick to their processes, play to their individual strengths and minimise the impact of the spin duo as they look to bounce back. On handling the pressure, Connolly says staying relaxed and focusing on their processes will be key, with them confident in their ability to challenge South Africa on their day. Away from the cricket, he reveals that drum and bass features heavily on his playlist and says he enjoys singing whatever is playing around the ground to keep himself relaxed, while also looking to get the change room energised before the game.

Pre-match thoughts - South Africa's Marco Jansen on his batting innings in the previous ODI, says, it was a tricky one and two overs in, he just told Matthew Breetzke that listen he is going to play his way now and it is always nice to play with Matt and to put another one in the bank for the Proteas is a really nice one.

PITCH REPORT - Shaun Pollock notes that it is pretty hot with a breeze blowing across the ground towards the smaller boundary on the scoreboard side, which captains and players will need to factor into their tactics, and explains that playing in the Highveld is all about the fast bowlers' control and their ability to find shape with the new ball, making it interesting to see how batters and bowlers handle it. While adding that the surface itself looks good with not much green grass as it is early in the season but with decent covering on a good length, so the ball should come through nicely and it is no surprise to bowl first with some moisture and nip expected early on. Shaun adds that with South Africa fielding two spinners, he expects the pitch to be dry enough to offer turn later in the day after being under the sun for several hours.

Australia need more from the middle order - Australia's openers gave them an excellent platform in the opener, but the momentum quickly disappeared once the middle order came into the picture with only Matt Renshaw showing some sort of resistance. The visitors will need considerably more from that group this time around if they are to chase down a target or build a competitive total. There could also be a boost in the bowling department, with captain Pat Cummins in line to return after missing the first ODI.

Back at the Bullring - It's been more than 20 years since South Africa and Australia played the most famous ODI game of the 21st century right here in Johannesburg. Now, both teams return to this iconic venue in what is a dress rehearsal for next year's ODI World Cup. The second ODI arrives with Australia needing a response and South Africa looking to convert their opening success into a series-winning position. The Wanderers is one of the most recognisable venues in world cricket, and its traditionally lively conditions can produce a very different contest from the slower, spin-friendly surface seen in Durban. Hosts growing in confidence - South Africa's victory in the opening match was built around a combination of excellent batting recovery and disciplined bowling. After losing Quinton de Kock and finding themselves under pressure, Breetzke produced another composed century, while Jansen's aggressive innings transformed the latter stages of the innings. Their partnership helped the Proteas reach 297, giving their bowlers enough runs to attack Australia's batting lineup. Breetzke is quickly becoming one of the most intriguing young batters in international cricket. His 112 in Durban was his second ODI century, and he now has an extraordinary start to his international career. His ability to combine controlled strokeplay with aggressive scoring gives South Africa another reliable option in the top and middle order. The second ODI will provide another opportunity for him to establish himself in home conditions. The return of several experienced players has also strengthened South Africa's batting. Temba Bavuma, Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, David Miller and Ryan Rickelton give the side considerable experience, while players such as Breetzke, Tristan Stubbs and Corbin Bosch add a younger attacking dimension. Markram was initially unavailable for the first ODI but is available for the second and third matches. Maharaj, the solution - Keshav Maharaj was the decisive figure with the ball in Durban. His 4/20 dismantled Australia's chase after Mitchell Marsh had given the visitors a flying start. Maharaj's dismissal of Travis Head with the first ball of his spell was particularly important because it changed the momentum of the innings. The Wanderers could provide a different challenge, but Maharaj remains central to South Africa's plans, especially given the injury concerns that have depleted their pace attack.
