A couple of costly overs seal the fate - Bangladesh made a couple of early breakthroughs, with Mahedi Hasan and Nasum Ahmed striking in their first overs, while Rishad Hossain added another in the middle overs. The spinners also did well to keep the runs in check, but Mustafizur Rahman had an off day despite taking a wicket, conceding 41 runs from his two overs. Those expensive overs ultimately proved to be the difference between the sides.
Bangladesh fight their way to a fighting score - Earlier in the day, after the game was reduced to 13 overs per side, Bangladesh posted a fighting total despite a few early blows. Towhid Hridoy was the pick with a fine 42 off 25, sharing a crucial 53-run stand with Mosaddek Hossain, but they could not finish with the flurry they would have wanted. Pakistan's spinners were excellent, with Sufyan Moqim claiming three wickets, Arafat Minhas picking up two and Saim Ayub chipping in with one.
Samad and Nawaz finish the job - Chasing 112 in 13 overs on a tricky pitch, Pakistan slipped to 53/4 after losing both openers early, with Maaz Sadaqat, Usman Khan and Saim Ayub providing brief sparks. Abdul Samad and Hasan Nawaz, though, stayed patient and refused to throw their wickets away. A couple of sixes got Nawaz going before Samad smashed Fizz for 22 in five balls to swing the game Pakistan's way. The pair added 59, with Samad making 30 off 15, before Nawaz finished the chase with nine balls to spare.
Pakistan find a way through to the final - Pakistan march into the Asian Games Men's Cricket gold medal match after an excellent all-round performance, but they had to work hard for it, grinding it out with both bat and ball to get over the line. Bangladesh will feel this was a game that slipped away, with a series of self-inflicted wounds ultimately costing them a place in the final.
