Addressing their collective effort with the ball, he attributes their defensive discipline to following the coaching staff's instructions, focusing strictly on maintaining tight lines, disciplined lengths, and consistently targeting the right areas on the pitch. A lot of work to do - Namibia will feel they have let things slip here. It was a fine comeback with the ball in the first innings, and they didn't even allow Ireland to get close to the 250-run mark, thanks to a four-fer from Bernard Scholtz and also the other who backed him up. However, their batting is an area of concern. Michael van Lingen and Louren Steenkamp both got off to starts, but those who followed fell quickly and the way they were dismissed left a lot to be desired. Skipper Gerhard Erasmus tried to fight back as he generally does, but if not for Ruben Trumpelmann, Namibia would have lost by a humongous margin. His fighting 50 was merely a consolation, though, as Namibia's fate was sealed long ago.
Winning start for Paul Stirling and co. - It has been a bit of a tough year in terms of ODI cricket for Ireland, but they have started this series in style. Not the best batting performance, but skipper Paul Stirling looked in pristine touch, and batters from 1-6 all got starts, which is also a bit of a positive. The real reason for Ireland's win, however, was their bowlers. The pacers didn't have the best of starts, but Jai Moondra did get an early wicket. Then, Gavin Hoey came in and chipped in with a few quick wickets, three total. Ireland had the opposition reeling at 110/7 as George Dockrell also picked up a couple of wickets. There was late resistance from the opposition batters but Ireland managed to clean things up and cruised to the finish line.
Ireland take the early lead - A wonderful performance with the ball and in the field has handed the visitors, Ireland, a 1-0 lead over hosts Namibia in this five-match ODI series. On paper, it does seem like a big win, but there wasn't much in it, barring the fact that Ireland had a bit more contribution with the bat right throughout the order.
